LinkED - Lancaster ISD Parent Newsletter - January 2018

In January, we took off running in the direction of higher achievement and greater success. We hosted our annual male mentorship summit, the 2018 class from Leadership Southwest and a site visit from the H-E-B Finalist judges panel. These are just a few of the wonderful happenings of January 2018. We definitely expect greater things to occur during this semester.

Please know that your involvement and decision to allow us to shape your children to successfully thrive in society, achieve self-sustaining success and leave a lasting legacy fills us with appreciation and gratitude.

Lancaster ISD Kicks Off Month-Long Reading Challenge

All members of the community are encouraged to join students and staff by taking the online pledge to allocate 15 minutes each day to reading this month.

The criteria of the challenge encourages reading together as a family, reading before bed time, participating in read-aloud activities with family and/or friends, visiting the City of Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library or your local library to check out a new book.

George Washington Carver Student Wins District Spelling Bee

Lancaster ISD recently hosted its annual District Spelling Bee at Lancaster High School for fourth through seventh grade students. The evening consisted of 8 spelling bee scholars and 16 rounds. At the close of the first seven rounds, two students remained to vie for the top seat.

Harmonee Lester from George Washington Carver 6th Grade STEM Learning Center was in strong competition with fifth grade student, Alexis Evans from Rosa Parks - Millbrook Information Systems & Software Designs Academy. Both students were first time participants and eager to win.

Lancaster STEM Early College High School Application Deadline is February 1.

The deadline for current 8th and 9th grade students to apply to attend Lancaster STEM Early College High School is February 1, 2018!

We are accepting applications from current Lancaster ISD and out-of-district students. Please ensure that your application is submitted no later than February 1, 2018. If you are unsure if early college high school is perfect for your child, please visit our website or give us a call at 972-218-1861.

Lancaster ISD is OPEN!

Lancaster ISD campuses and offices are open today, Tuesday, January 16, as normally scheduled.

Our student bus pick up is currently in progress. Please remember that traffic and weather conditions may cause some routes to be early or delayed. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call Lancaster ISD Transportation at 972-218-1485.

Lancaster ISD Board of Trustees Select New Superintendent of Schools

On Monday, January 8, the Lancaster ISD Board of Trustees voted to select its Lone Finalist, Elijah Granger, as the new superintendent of schools.
Mr. Granger has been a part of the district in various administrative roles for the past six years. However, during the past 15 years, he has worked as a middle school science teacher, high school agricultural science teacher, assistant principal, intermediate, middle and high school principal, executive principal, executive director, assistant superintendent and interim superintendent.
