Lancaster ISD selected as pilot district for Texas College Access Network
Lancaster, TX/ Lancaster ISD/ November 4, 2011– We are honored to announce that the Lancaster Independent School District has been selected as a participant of the Texas College Access Network (TxCAN) North Texas pilot region by the Texas High School Project (THSP).
THSP, a public-private initiative of the Communities Foundation of Texas, joined with Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and representatives of area school districts and institutions of higher education to make this announcement. TxCAN is part of the National College Access Network (NCAN), created to establish a sustainable network of agencies and organizations working collaboratively to increase student access and success in postsecondary education.
“We are excited about being selected as a participant of the North Texas TxCAN pilot region,” Lancaster Independent School District Superintendent Michael McFarland said. “In Lancaster ISD, our focus is on ensuring that our students graduate with more than a high school diploma. We are committed to ensuring that our students leave us college-prepared and career ready with choices and opportunities. We look forward to partnering with agencies and organizations within the North Texas TxCAN pilot region who are equally committed to working collaboratively to increase student access and success in postsecondary education.”
The existence of dynamic partnerships between area school districts, such as Dallas, Lancaster and Richardson ISDs, as well as UPLIFT EDUCATION, are considered key to achieving TxCAN’s goals of success for all students throughout the North Texas region.
Key initiatives for TxCAN will focus on building awareness of existing college access activities and resources, aligning the strategic efforts of numerous stakeholders, and providing tools to measure the impact of access services.  The district will join in the media kick-off at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8 at the University of North Texas Dallas Campus.
The Lancaster Public Schools serve more than 6,000 pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students in 11 schools. The mission of the  Lancaster Independent School District, a leader in providing innovative, quality programs, is to educate every student with the knowledge; skills; and principles to succeed and contribute in a competitive and technologically advancing world by providing rigorous and engaging learning opportunities that promote diversity; create an environment of integrity and respect; and establish a commitment to continued improvement in partnership with families and community.
