Lancaster, Texas/Lancaster ISD
This year marks the 50 anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s untimely death. In an effort led by County Judge Clay Jenkins, the Dallas County Commissioners Court established Thursday, November 21, 2013 as “Ask Not ‐ The Dallas County Day of Service.”
During his inauguration speech on January 20, 1961, President Kennedy challenged Americans to a higher level of concern and action for their neighbors in one of his most famous statements, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
That sentiment of duty through service became the hallmark of his brief tenure as president. This year, Lancaster ISD joined many other communities and school districts throughout Dallas County to honor the life and legacy of President Kennedy.

Students from every elementary school in Lancaster ISD created tokens of appreciation for the men and women who serve in the city’s fire and police departments. On Thursday, a small group of student ambassadors visited Lancaster’s Public Safety building to deliver the cards, posters and banners in person.

After presenting the artwork to the fire fighters and police officers, the students met the police dog, Officer Rex, and were also treated to a tour of the facility.

The Lancaster Public Schools serve more than 6,000 pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students in 11 schools.
