Lancaster ISD to Host Its 8th Annual Special Olympics Track and Field Meet

Lancaster, TX/Lancaster ISD – On April 27, from 9:45 AM to 2 PM, the Lancaster ISD Beverly D. Humphrey Stadium will transform into a place of sheer excitement and hope for students in the Best Southwest area as the Lancaster Independent School District opens its 8th annual Special Olympics Track and Field Meet.
The meet will consist of at least 300 students in various grades from Cedar Hill, Red Oak, Waxahachie, Grand Prairie, Uplift Charter, Ferris, Terrell and of course, Lancaster ISD.

This annual event is rich with passion and support, full of high-fives and smiles and athletes with a tenacious commitment to get to the finish line. The creation of a fun and competitive environment is a goal of the local event founder and current coordinator, Lancaster ISD Special Education Adaptive PE Coach and Special Olympics event Coordinator Eddie Bratton.

“I want the students to have lasting memories of competing with one another and celebrate their wins like other students,” Bratton said. “It is my desire to hold fast to the Special Olympics motto, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

In planning this event, Lancaster ISD staff look for ways to continue to enhance the day’s activities. In addition to the track and field meet, the Olympic participants will enjoy face painting and fun with friends.

The Best Southwest community of parents and guests are welcomed to attend and be seen cheering from the stands or on the sidelines.

Bratton said that he would like to pack the stands and invites everyone to attend this free, community event. The Lancaster ISD Beverly D. Humphrey Tiger Stadium is located 200 E. Wintergreen Road on the campus of Lancaster High School.
